Time Slotted Moving Window - a New Policing Mechanism for High Speed Networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper describes a window-based policing mechanism, called Time Slotted Moving Window. Its key idea consists in aggregating the arrival events computation in order to minimize the processing and buffering requirements. Its main characteristics are simplicity, low implementation complexity, memory saving and use of a single low precision timer. Its performance behavior ranges from jumping window to sliding window results. Simulation and implementation results considering geometric and bursty traffics are obtained for comparison purpose. The comparative analysis concentrates on the number of timers and their precision, the maximum burst duration, the required memory and the violation probability. Furthermore, the mechanisms were implemented in UNIX and DOS environment using a high performance implementation architecture. The results confirm proposed mechanism efficiency.

When congestion occurs in VDSL networks, it will drop incoming frames because the buffer fills up frames until it overflows. In backpressure algorithm suitable for low traffic [1], it prevents buffer overflows. In backoff time in leaky bucket over traffic policing mechanism suitable for high traffic [2], Backoff time computations are wildly used in order to avoid the impact on the network perfo...

The use of directional antennas in wireless ad hoc networks can significantly improve global performance due to a high spatial channel reuse. Nevertheless, its introduction poses new location dependent problems related to the MAC protocol. In this paper, the Balanced Incomplete Block Design theory has been exploited to develop a new MAC protocol for wireless ad hoc networks using directional ant...
